Over the past week, I had the pleasure of watching students facilitate 10 minute activities. Although all the groups did a great job, some of the groups did something that made their group stand out to me. The groups that really excelled, were groups that used IDDDA in their intros. The use of IDDDA really helped groups both grab the participants attention and showed that they had prepared a lot in advance.
When using this format to start their events, groups were able to pull the participants in. The main reason that it got everyones attention, is because it gave flow to the beginning of the activity. Having this flow was also in part to the groups preparation. When the leaders were able to split IDDDA amongst themselves, it made every part of it easy to understand.
After seeing the groups use IDDDA so affectively, I have come to the realization of how important using the format is. I feel in order to have successful facilitations in the future, I will need to spend more of my preparation time on IDDDA. This format both gets the groups attention and shows that the leader is prepared and has really thought out their activity.
I'm glad you felt the 10-minute activities gave you a chance to practice your observation skills and that you gave specific examples of that. I wonder what you learned about how to give feedback? Also, pretty long span between this post and the past one so don't forget to post!
